Website showing information on care home transfers

Information that shows the progress being made to transfer 26 care homes in Northern Ireland owned by Southern Cross to new proprietors is now available on the website of the Health and Social Care Board.

Southern Cross – a large company that owns several hundred care homes across the UK – is currently re-structuring its business in a process that will continue until the end of October. This is involving the transfer of all the homes to a range of new operators, and this process includes all 26 Southern Cross care homes located here in Northern Ireland.

Health and Social Care organisations here in Northern Ireland purchase care for many people in Southern Cross homes, and have been actively monitoring progress on the transition of its business. This has been undertaken to ensure that the care of everyone living in a home operated by Southern Cross is protected and maintained.

As an aid to residents, their carers and the public, the organisations are now providing a weekly update on the status of the business transition process as its relates to all 26 Southern Cross care homes in Northern Ireland. This is available on the website of the Health and Social Care Board www.hscboard.hscni.net  This website facility is supported with additional information that includes a Questions and Answers factsheet, and contact points where people can obtain further information.

The information will be updated regularly during the transition process required by Southern Cross to complete the transfer of its homes. A similar website facility, hosted by The Guardian newspaper, has been established to show the transition process as it relates to Southern Cross homes in other parts of the UK.
