Health and Social Care Board welcomes arrival of new Children’s MRI scanner

The Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) today welcomed the delivery of the new MRI scanner at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children (RBHSC).

The new scanner will be capable of providing almost 2500 scans a year at the RBHSC and will greatly improve access to much needed scans for children and young people in Northern Ireland.

Danny Power, Chair of the Belfast Local Commissioning Group, HSCB said, “We have committed funding up to £400,000 this year, to the Belfast Trust for the running of the service, growing to £1m from 2016/17. The new MRI scanner will allow children and young people to be scanned within the children’s hospital and free up capacity in the existing MRI scanner for adult services. Across the two scanners, an additional 3500 scans will be provided annually. This extra capacity will help towards alleviating waiting times for scans.”
