Children, young people and their families have taken part in a family fun and information day highlighting the range of activities and services that are available to them across the Armagh area.
The free event was organised by the Health and Social Care Board’s Children’s and Young People’s Committee located in the Southern area in partnership with Children in Northern Ireland (CiNI).
Commenting on the success of the event, Julie Patton, Armagh Locality Development Officer commented: “Nearly three hundred families from local communities in the Armagh area attended including families from the Travelling, Polish, Lithuanian and Bulgarian communities.
“Useful information on local services was available throughout the day from representatives from Opportunity Youth, L.A Project, Parents Advice Centre, Job Centre, Leisure Centre, NICMA, Mencap Youth Inclusion Hub, Belong, Step, Patient Client Council and React. Some of the activities enjoyed by the children included a bouncy castle, blow-up slide and face painting. Representatives from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and local sporting clubs were also in attendance.”
Pauline Leeson from Children in Northern Ireland added: “CiNI alongside Children’s Services Planning aims to improve the lives of Children and young people in the Armagh area through the new Locality Development Partnership Group. The fun and information event at the end of August allowed local families, children and young people the opportunity to identify what services are available to them, sign up to a number of different organisations, whilst the children and young people were entertained with different activities.
Comments from parents attending the event were very positive:
“Excellent event, I found the information tables very helpful. I was really interested in the Family Support Database
and think this will be a great support to families. My children enjoyed the entertainment outside.”
“I thought it was a good idea to combine information tables and fun for the children!! I signed up to become
a registered childminder, definitely a very good event for the whole family.”
A similar event will be held at the end of October for the young people of Armagh who are aged between twelve to eighteen years old. For further information contact Julie Patton on Tel: (028) 3741 4596 or Email: Julie.Patton@hscni.net.
